Everything You Need to Know for Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon Weekend

On Sunday morning, 20,000 runners will take to the streets of Chicago to run the 2015 Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series has a band for every mile of the 13.1 mile course to keep runners and spectators rocking.

Hyatt Regency McCormick Place is proud to be the headquarters hotel for this annual summer race. Here are some details for race weekend that will come in handy for runners, supporters, and Chicagoans:

Health & Fitness Expo: The Health & Fitness Expo and packet pick up takes place in the Lakeside Center of McCormick Place which is attached to the hotel. Expo hours are Friday 12pm-7pm and Saturday 9am-5pm.

Race Course & Street Closures: Everyone traveling in Chicago this weekend should take note of the course map and road closures as this will impact travel times.

Shor

Shor will host an All-You-Can-Eat Pasta Buffet the night before the race for $30/person.

Pre-Race Pasta Dinner: Shor Restaurant, located within Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, will offer an all-you-can-eat, pre-race pasta dinner Saturday night to help runner’s carbo-load. The all-you-can-eat buffet is $30/person and includes:

  • Garlic & Rosemary Crusted Round of Beef Carving Station with Horseradish Cream & Mustards
  • Roasted Chicken with Balsamic Bell Peppers
  • Lemon-Dill Salmon
  • Pasta Bar with Linguine, Whole Wheat Penne, Cheese Tortellini, Marinara & Alfredo Sauces, & Meatballs
  • Loaded Baked Potato Bar
  • Summer Vegetables
  • Full Salad Bar with Fruit
  • Fresh Rolls
  • Seasonal Desserts

Start Time & Location: The race starts and finishes on Columbus Drive in Grant Park. The first coral starts at 6:30am.

Complimentary Shuttle: Hyatt Regency McCormick Place will run a complimentary shuttle on race day to take runners and spectators from the hotel to the intersection of 13th & Indiana. This is as close to Grant Park as race officials will allow vehicles due to road closures and security measures. The shuttle will depart from the front drive of the hotel on a first come, first serve basis. No sign up is required. The shuttle will run from 4:30am until 12:30pm. The pick up location for those returning to the hotel will be the same spot as drop off.Race Day Breakfast: Race day is an early morning for runners,so Daily Grind Fresh Market will be open overnight to allow runners to stock up on fresh fruit, granola bars, pastries, coffee, juice, energy gels, and more the night before or the wee early hours before the race. Mention this post and get a fresh fruit and water combo for $4.

Post-Race Brunch: Hop off the shuttle back at the hotel and enjoy a post-race celebratory brunch.
