Hyatt Hosting Electronic Waste Recycle Drive Sat November 15th 10am-3pm

RecycleDriveAmerica Recycles Day is November 15th, 2014.  This year, Hyatt Regency McCormick Place is focusing our efforts on electronic waste.  Have you heard about e-waste?  It’s a growing problem in our landfills.  People are throwing away old cell phones, computers, TVs and more at increasing rates, and many contain dangerous toxins that should stay out of our landfills.  Here are some quick e-waste stats from DoSomething.orgewaste-bin

  • 80-85% of electronic products are discarded into landfills or incinerators, which releases toxics in the air.
  • While e-waste represents 2% of America’s trash, it equals 70% of overall toxic waste.
  • 20-50 million metric tons of e-waste are disposed worldwide every year.
  • Cell phones and other electronic items contain high amount of precious metals like gold and silver. Americans dump phones containing over $60 million in gold/silver every year.
  • Only 12.5% of e-waste is currently recycled.
If you’re anything like our team, many of us just aren’t aware of the problems of e-waste or don’t know what to do to properly dispose of it.  That’s why Hyatt Regency McCormick Place has partnered with Kendall College and Waste Management to offer an Electronic Waste Recycle Drive on Saturday November 15th from 10am-3pm.

Bring your electronic waste items to our loading dock located behind the hotel just south of the intersection at Cermak Rd and Donnelly Rd. Students from Kendall College will be ready to sort and accept your items for proper e-waste disposal by our partners at Waste Management.  No fee or donation will be accepted.  We just want to help you with a place to properly dispose of your e-waste!
