BearsSaintsThe Chicago Bears finish their regular season with three home games in December including a Monday Night Football game vs. the New Orleans Saints on December 15th.  The Saints traditionally struggle on the road, but the Bears have yet to win a home game this season.  It should be a good match up between the Bears and Drew Brees & co!

Coming to the game?  Hyatt Regency McCormick Place is an official Soldier Field hotel located just 10 minutes away, right between the stadium and the Bears official tailgating lot at 31st St.

Click here for a closer view at the walking map from the hotel to Soldier Field.

Don’t miss out on Hyatt’s discounted $79 rate that includes FREE self-parking!  Rate is available for Dec 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16.

Josh Claudio – Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association Chicago Region Supervisor of the Year

JoshClaudioWe are so happy to announce that our Front Office Supervisor, Josh Claudio, was announced as the winner of the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association’s Stars of the Industry award for the Chicago Region Supervisor of the Year!  Many were nominated.  Three were finalists, and out of all the hotels in the Chicagoland area, Josh was chosen.

Josh first came to Hyatt Regency McCormick Place as a Security Officer.  Josh worked for United Security Services, the team that provides our hotel security.  He provided such great service in that roll, and he enjoyed working with our guests so much, that he soon moved over to the Hyatt team as a Bellman, then quickly moved on to Overnight Front Office Agent/Night Audit, before being promoted to his current position as Front Office Supervisor.

Josh will now move on to compete for the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association’s state title for Supervisor of the Year.  Congratulations Josh, and good luck at the state finals in Springfield!

Hyatt Breast Cancer Walk – Fight Like a Girl!

Walk1 For the past few weeks our team has been planning a Breast Cancer Walk in honor of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Today was the day, and we had a great turnout of associates for our walk.  It was a crisp outside which made for a refreshing 5k walk from the hotel to the Shedd Aquarium and back along Chicago’s beautiful Lakeshore Path.  Walk3

All total we raised a little over $1,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and of course, enjoyed some hot chocolate and cookies upon our return!

We also have a couple of breast cancer survivors among our staff that we were proud to recognize and have participate in the walk. Meet Edwina and Stephanie, two of our hotel operators.  They are normally behind the scenes answering telephones, but today they took the spotlight.  You go ladies!  View more pics of the walk at #HyattPink.

Announcing Hyatt Horses of Honor Photo Contest

10712740_10152758773879553_3375706302433169569_nFrom bulls, to couches, to head planters, and fire hydrants, Chicago has had a lot of public art installations over the years.  Here at Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, we’re proud to be a part of Chicago’s most recent installation, Horses of Honor, with this horse on display in our lobby.

The Horses of Honor Art Program benefits the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.  Each horse you see around the city is dedicated to a Chicago police officer who was killed or injured in the line of duty.

We’re donating a free night’s stay to the family of the officer to which our Horse of Honor is dedicated, and to help spread awareness about Horses of Honor, we’re running a photo contest as well!

Between now and January 15th, 2015, share a photo of our Horse of Honor to hashtag #HyattHorseEntry on Twitter or Facebook and be entered to win a free night’s stay with us!

The photo could be of the horse, your selfie with the horse, a group photo, or get creative!  We’ll pick our favorite photo to win the free night’s stay.

Read the full photo judging criteria and contest terms & conditions here.

Hyatt Hosting Electronic Waste Recycle Drive Sat November 15th 10am-3pm

RecycleDriveAmerica Recycles Day is November 15th, 2014.  This year, Hyatt Regency McCormick Place is focusing our efforts on electronic waste.  Have you heard about e-waste?  It’s a growing problem in our landfills.  People are throwing away old cell phones, computers, TVs and more at increasing rates, and many contain dangerous toxins that should stay out of our landfills.  Here are some quick e-waste stats from DoSomething.orgewaste-bin

  • 80-85% of electronic products are discarded into landfills or incinerators, which releases toxics in the air.
  • While e-waste represents 2% of America’s trash, it equals 70% of overall toxic waste.
  • 20-50 million metric tons of e-waste are disposed worldwide every year.
  • Cell phones and other electronic items contain high amount of precious metals like gold and silver. Americans dump phones containing over $60 million in gold/silver every year.
  • Only 12.5% of e-waste is currently recycled.
If you’re anything like our team, many of us just aren’t aware of the problems of e-waste or don’t know what to do to properly dispose of it.  That’s why Hyatt Regency McCormick Place has partnered with Kendall College and Waste Management to offer an Electronic Waste Recycle Drive on Saturday November 15th from 10am-3pm.

Bring your electronic waste items to our loading dock located behind the hotel just south of the intersection at Cermak Rd and Donnelly Rd. Students from Kendall College will be ready to sort and accept your items for proper e-waste disposal by our partners at Waste Management.  No fee or donation will be accepted.  We just want to help you with a place to properly dispose of your e-waste!

locationAccepted items include

  • Cell Phones
  • Computers
  • CPU’s
  • Monitors
  • Fax Machines
  • MP3 Players
  • Photocopiers
  • Printers
  • Radios
  • Keyboards
  • Stereos
  • Televisions
  • Office Phones

Unfortunately we will be unable to accept the following materials: Fire Alarms, Refrigerators, Smoke Detectors, Thermometers, or Microwaves

We hope to see you there on Nov 15th!
