Meet the Team Monday: Meet Event Manager, Alyson Anderson

Alyson AndersonMeet one of our extraordinary Event Managers, and the 2014 Manager of the Year, Alyson Anderson.

After graduating from Towson University, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business, with a concentration in Marketing, Alyson started her career with Hyatt, where she has continued to grow over the course of 15 years. She was drawn in by the culture of the hotel industry, as well as by the great co-workers, and the sense of teamwork that the company exudes. She started as a Meeting Concierge, and then moved up to a Catering and Convention Services Manager, at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore. She was also a Convention Services manager at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick, and the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing, prior to joining the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place team 9 years ago.Having been in Convention Services for the last 13 years, Alyson loves working with the clients, and watching as an event that can be months, or years in the making, come to fruition, with a great end result.

A Jersey girl. Alyson does miss the Northeast; however, the Midwest has been a great home for both her, and her family. In her free time, Alyson enjoys going out to eat at all of the great restaurants in the area, and when the weather is warm, having fun at the Cypress Cove water park, with her children.

Alyson’s outgoing personality, her dedication to every event that she works, and her passion for working with others makes her an excellent manager, and we are so very lucky to have her.

If you would like to reach Alyson, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact her at

#WeddingWednesday – Bring In 2015 With Bling

On this #WeddingWednesday we decided to go back to the shiniest, happiest moment in a soon-to-be wed couples new life together: the engagement.

Since the year is young, there is still plenty of time for trends to form, but we decided to take a look at some popular engagement ring types, and the ones that we think we will see more of in 2015. Here are some

Diamond Cluster

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend – or so the saying goes. Diamond cluster rings are great for the girl who is looking to have a larger ring, but at not a larger cost. The multitude of smaller diamonds ensures that there’s all-around sparkle.

Princess Kate (whose beautiful ring is shown above), is the epitome of a classic beauty, and her ring certainly matches. Gemstone rings may not be the most traditional engagement ring type; however, they add a very large pop of color, and help to make the rock on any finger stand out even more.

Rose Gold

In our opinion, 2015 will be the year of the rose gold wedding band. While white gold has reigned as the preferred choice of metal in years past; however, in the last few years, rose gold has become an increasingly popular choice for those picking out fine jewelry. We believe that the inevitable transition from fine jewelry to engagement jewelry is happening this year. Besides, what’s not to love about the warm hued band that contrasts so beautifully with the clear, perfect diamond(s).

Cushion Cut

For those who are looking for a classically elegant-styled engagement ring, the cushion cut is the way to go this year. With a slightly vintage flare, the cushion cut has a romantic silhouette that is timeless.

Enjoy every moment of your engagement, and each time you look at your ring, remember the miraculous moment you said, “Yes,” and look forward to the moment you get to say, “I do.”

Travel Tuesday – Tackle the Tundra

Chicago is not exactly known for having mild Winters, and for those that are not used to cold weather, this image may cross your mind when you think of being outside:

However, there are so many things to do here, that it makes adding on a few extra layers completely worth it. Here are some of our favorite things about the city during these cold months:

There is more to Chicago than hot dogs and deep dish pizza (though both are delicious, and should be consumed at least once during your visit). Each year, Chicago Restaurant Week takes place;20130107-235968-chicago-restaurant-week-picks2 it is a celebration of the amazing cuisines and culinary masters that grace our restaurants, in the Windy City. More than 250 restaurants participate in this throughout the city, setting prix fixe menus, with some of their best creations. Look through the list of restaurants participating, courtesy of Choose Chicago, and make your reservations for some Chicago delicacies!

We have some of the greatest museums in the world. From a giant t-rex, named Sue, priceless art, to a sea otter pup, named Luna, there is something for all to see and enjoy. Escape the cold weather indoors – and surround yourself with natural wonders, and unique masterpieces, and create lasting memories. Take a look at this list of museums, and take advantage of some of their special offers.

Chicago is a city that loves their sports teams. We are proud of our Blackhawks and our Bulls, and cheer them on at every game; you might even call us “Super Fans.”

Be sure to catch either a hockey, or a basketball game while you are here.

The third annual Hockey City Classic will be happening on February 7th. This college hockey double header – University of Michigan vs. Michigan State, and Miami University vs. Western Michigan University – will be held at Soldier Field. We are within walking distance, and have a great package available, that includes free parking and WiFi, and a $20.00 food and beverage creditPhoto by Matt Cashore/University of Notre Dame

And the Chicago Auto Show is not to be forgotten. Running from February 14th – 22nd, this is the nation’s largest and longest running auto show. Make it a romantic get-away, with our Auto Lover’s Package, or make it a friend’s weekend, and take advantage of our Chicago Auto Show Package, and get a great deal.

Supercar Garage

The theater culture in Chicago is unsurpassed. We have Chicago Theater Week, from February 12th – 22nd, where over 100 productions will be shown. For musicals, StompFirst Wives Club, and The Book of Mormon are the big one from Broadway In Chicago (<– please refer to their website for show dates and tickets). Whether your interests lie in drama, comedy, or musicals, the plethora of talented people who take the stage both during Theater Week, and in shows that run throughout the Winter, is truly amazing.

Chicago has something for everyone, regardless of your interests. So, come and explore are architecturally beautiful city, and enjoy some of the great happenings around town!

Meet The Team Monday: Meet VIP Manager, Matt Bailey

Matt BaileyMeet our marvelous VIP Manager, Matt Bailey!

Matt has been with Hyatt for over a year and a half, and we are incredibly lucky to have him! A graduate of Moraine Valley, with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Matt’s love of interacting with others, along with his expertise of the hospitality industry, makes him a great VIP Manager.

Prior to joining the Hyatt family, Matt was living in the Sunshine State, and working for the Mouse. While in college, Matt took part in the Disney College Program, where he worked in both Operations and Recruiting. He enjoyed working the attractions, and the comradery amongst the crew so much, that he continued at Disney, for 7 years, after. Matt’s desire to live in a big city, brought him to Chicago. He was drawn in by the cacophony and hustle of the city, in addition to all of the beautiful architectural sites, and the variety of things to do. In his spare time, Matt likes to go to the beach – weather permitting, of course – and spend time with friends.

Matt is truly dedicated to enhancing every guest’s experience, and the passion and high energy that he brings with him to work every day, makes him an essential part of our Hyatt Regency McCormick Place team.

The temperature will be rough, but as long as you bundle up, we swear, it will be okay! So, break out your puffy coats, lace up your snow boots, and don your beanies, because there are a multitude of things to do in Chicago, that are worth braving the cold for.

#WeddingWednesday: Some of Our Favorite 2014 Moments

Today is December 31, 2014 – the last day of what has been a spectacular year. It is crazy to think that in just a few short hours, we ring in another year, and 2015 starts.

We decided to take this #WeddingWednesday post, and dedicate it to some of our favorite things that happened in the world of weddings in the past 365 days – whether it be beloved celebrities tying the knot, the sweetest proposal, or most memorable wedding photos.

Cutest Celebrity Power Couples

Joining the ranks of cutest, married couples would be:

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin George Clooney Wedding

The dashing George Clooney, the man we thought (and let’s be honest, hoped) would forever be a bachelor, found true love with the brilliant and gorgeous, Amal Alamuddin. Their romantic nuptials in Venice topped our list of best celebrity weddings.

Neil Patrick Harris and David BurtkaNPH Wedding

After ten years, and two kids together, it was a long time coming for Neil Patrick Harris, and David Burtka. Tweeting out, “Guess what? David Burtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband,” Harris made us fall in love with this adorable, quirky couple all over again…and their precious wedding picture didn’t hurt either.

Most Charming Wedding Proposal

Nothing is greater than a unique, sentimental wedding proposal, where the person is brought to tears, and the answer to “Will you marry me,” is an undeniable “Yes.”

The wedding proposal that caught our eye, and melted our heart was this one from across the pond:

Greatest Wedding Pictures

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, and there are not enough words to describe how much we love these wedding pictures from 2014:
